Origin: Eastern US and Canada

Appearance: Pale reddish-brown and frequently marked with worm holes.

Characteristics: Coarse texture similar to oak. Low resistance to shock and easily splits. Liable to insect attack and rare due to a fungal disease called chesnut blight.
